Kenneth Sandler, MD
President and Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Sandler founded Lighthouse in 1986 with a vision to provide compassionate, effective, and science-based chemical dependency treatment.  With more than 30 years of experience in addiction medicine, Dr. Sandler is a leading authority on the subject. 

For the past 10 years, he has been clinical professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, one of the best research medical schools in the country. He has also worked as medical director for the Fairmount Institute in Philadelphia, Pa., and was a substance abuse consultant to the National Football League for seven years.

Dr. Sandler is a cum laude graduate of the University of Delaware and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, a prestigious academic honor society.  He received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and is board certified in psychiatry and addictions by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Michael DeShields, MD
Medical Director
 
Dr. DeShields is a well-regarded leader in the field of addiction medicine.

Besides his position as Lighthouse’s medical director, Dr. DeShields serves as the president of the American Society of Addictions Medicine (ASAM), New Jersey chapter, and as a consultant for the organization. In his role as consultant, Dr. DeShields mentors physicians new to the process of Suboxone detoxification, one of the latest medications for opiate detoxification.  He has a private practice in addiction medicine in Camden County, N.J., and serves as the medical director of Camden County Health Services.

Dr. DeShields is board certified in internal medicine and in addictions by ASAM. He is a graduate of Temple University’s School of Medicine and a part-time associate professor of medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey.
